For my topic, I have decided to write about how the king helped Santiago in his journey in Paulo Coelho's book The Alchemist. This seemed like an interesting topic to me because Santiago was very dependent on him throughout his journey. On his journey for the "treasure", he found more than just the materials that rewarded him. Santiago figured out that not everything in life was about what you had or what you attempted to possess. His "Personal Legend" was what he was looking for, trying to find out what he really was pursuing in life.
I think that this will be a very fun and interesting paper to talk about. I have already found one source for this and will have it in class tomorrow. Other sources should be easy to find once I type in the right key words.

Things I've Noticed in The Alchemist
I'm really starting to see the connections to Aladdin now. All the characters just have that same feel to them as the ones from Aladdin do. Maybe it's just the desert feel that Egypt puts off? Not sure.
Another concept in this story that I like is the positive attitude of Santiago. At first, he is down on himself for having nothing and selling away his most prized possession. Now with this new job with the crystal merchant, he found a new outlook on life. It will be interesting to see as we conclude this story if his positive state of mind changes.
